Bence Jones Proteins are free monoclonal light chains (kappa or lambda) produced by abnormal plasma cells. These light chains are small enough to pass through the kidneys and appear in urine. This test is mainly used to detect multiple myeloma, other plasma cell dyscrasias, unexplained bone pain, anemia, hypercalcemia, kidney failure, monoclonal gammopathies, monitoring known myeloma patients.
